Dependent Child Sponsorship in Canada

Dependent Child Sponsorship

As a PR or a Canadian Citizen, you may be eligible to sponsor your own child or your spouse’s dependant child, or any child you want to adopt in Canada. The defination of a dependant child is either a

1.) Biological child of the parent, OR

2.) Adopted child of the parent, and

i.) is less than 22 years of age, and doesn’t have a spouse or common-law partner

ii.) is 22 years or older; has dependent substantially financially on the parent since before age of 22; unable to support themselves financially due to physical or mental condition.

If a child is adopted, then it must create a parent-child relationship in law (means the adoption must be valid in the country where it took place), and it cannot be a relationship of convenience and primarily for immigration purposes only.
